Nature tourism and spatial reproduction: Post-2000 tourism practices in Göreme

In this study, the development and diversification of tourism, which was shaped in the 1950s, and with this process, nature began to be a consumption element of tourism is discussed. Goreme, which was used as a settlement by the people of the region before the natural formations it has and tourism in the region, has started an integrated lifestyle in the tourism sector together with the tourists who are in demand in the region. In this context, the existing buildings were restored and reopened for different purposes. The study focuses on the reproduction process of the space. Within the scope of the study, a field study was conducted in the region using the qualitative method. Within the scope of the research, interviews were conducted with business owners who have lived in the region for many years. The transition processes of the participants to the tourism sector, their views on the touristicization of Göreme and their changing lives were tried to be examined. In the first part, the historical development of tourism is discussed. In the second part, the history of the Cappadocia Region and the transformation of Göreme with tourism are discussed. In the third part, the indicators that the tourism in the region is reproduced in the context of nature tourism are discussed.
