Investigation of the use of new type hybrid composites with natural fiber reinforced bioresin in the automotive industry

Abstract (EN)

In recent years, the importance of sustainability of materials used in addition to engineering designs has increased. In this context, products made of sustainable materials have begun to replace unsustainable products. Interest in natural fiber filler reinforced composites has increased. In this study, in addition to boron oil, composite samples were produced using open molding production method using natural materials such as carob powder, waste sawdust powder, cherry pit powder, hemp powder. An experimental study was conducted to create an alternative for both the interior and exterior structures of vehicles in the automotive sector. Tensile test, water test, impact test, abrasion test, hardness test, scanning electron microscope test and thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetric analysis were applied to the produced composites and the basic mechanical properties and thermal stability of the materials were determined. When the results were evaluated, it was seen that the filler reinforcement materials gave different results under different tests. It was seen that the use of boron oil increased the impact absorption ability of the materials. It was also determined that boron oil has water repellent properties. In the combustion test, while almost all of the epoxy material burned, it showed resistance to burning when the filler reinforcement material was added. In the TEM analysis, the addition of boron oil caused the formation of bubbles on the surface of the broken sample, while the addition of filler reinforcement material showed a healing feature by filling the gaps. The TEM results are consistent with the results obtained in other experiments. The biocomposite material produced with bioresin formed with boron oil and five different filler reinforcement materials has better energy absorption compared to the sample produced with epoxy resin, and this has become possible to evaluate in different parts such as automotive parts and vehicle bumpers.
