Abstract (EN)

Ecological problems, which have been arising with the thought of humanity to dominate nature, threaten the world. The exploitation of nature, which has started with the industrial revolution, put the world on irreversible paths such as water, soil and air pollution, as well as ozone layer depletion and reduction of living diversity. The effort to constantly change and transform the environment with a human-centered approach also causes bigger and radical problems. All human being is drowning in the waters of the global dominant problems. In a way, humanity has begun to defeat by its incompatibility against nature. The deep ecological approach, which examines ecological problems on a fictional level, draws attention to the intrinsic value of nature by drawing a theoretical framework against the human-centered attitude of human being towards nature. At this point, the deep ecological approach that tries to create awareness of nature and the cinema, which has the ability to convey the awareness-raising power of the texts to large masses, will be able to reveal a meaningful unity by combining their forces for nature. Moreover, to underline the awareness of ecology in Turkish cinema and to follow the traces of the deep ecology approach, which can be described as a mediator in integration with nature, the Yuva movie, directed by Emre Yeksan, has been chosen as a sample in scope of this study. The movie includes the story of Veysel, who escapes from his former life, taking refuge in nature, and integrating with it, which he believes his real home. While the movie has been analyzed within the scope of the principles of the deep ecology approach, categories has been created under three main topics as 'all living things are inherently valuable: integration with nature', 'human intervention in the non-human world', and 'making the quality of life valuable: transformation'. Moreover, descriptive analysis has been made under aforesaid topics. Within the framework of the analysis, it has been concluded that the Yuva movie is in a parallel structure with the philosophy of deep ecology, based on ecological awareness and the integration of human with nature.
