In this thesis, for direct driven electric vehicles moving at low speed, an electronic differential (ED) system based on fuzzy logic is designed and implemented under some operational conditions, using in-wheel brushless DC (BLDC) motors. Different types of control methods such as PI, histeresis band and fuzzy logic controller are examined for the speed control of BLDC motors attached to the rear wheels to drive vehicle on straight and curvy roads. A speed control method used with fuzzy logic controllers for the speed and current errors is offered to the literature for the first time in this research. Control methods applied for the traction motors are studied and compared with simulations and experiments. Thus a proper control method is decided for the electronic differential system. The ED system is tested on straight and curvy roads both loaded and unloaded with simulation and experiments. When the results obtained are compared with the results presented in the literature, it has been observed that the vehicle with the electronic differential system proposed in this thesis moves with desired performance on straight, curvy, and uphill road.
