Abstract (EN)
In this study, soils of three different Laurus nobilis L. (Bay leaves), growing in Cukurova University Campus under the influence of Mediterranean climate were investigated by using its leaves and 1.8-Cineole, main constituent of leaves, and leaf extracts. Therefore, carbon mineralization was studied by adding the same and half amounts of carbon containing leaves and 1.8-Cineole, using respiration method. The genotoxic effects of leaf extract was tested in the absence of S9mix using sister chromatid exchange (SCE) test system. For this purpose, the lymphocytes were treated with 3.0, 6.0 and 12.0 µl/ml concentrations of Sf leaf extract for 24h and 48h treatment periodsIn all soil samples, carbon mineralization increased during the 30 days of incubation period, especially in soils added with the same and half amounts of carbon containing leaves and1.8-Cineole compared with the control soil. Carbon mineralization rate was 2.22 % in control soil; 2.16% and 2.94% added same and half amounts of carbon containing leaf added soils and were 3.23% and 3.84% in soils added with the same amounts of carbon containing and 1.8-Cineole added soils respectively.Laurus nobilis leaf extract alone didn?t increase SCE frequency at all concentrations and treatment periods in the absence of S9mix.
