Effects of the natural gas discoveries and drilling in the Eastern Mediterranean on the regional geopolitcs and Cyprus issue

The study focuses on the effects of natural gas resources discovered and expected to be discovered in the Eastern Mediterranean Region on the Cyprus problem in the region. The main question of the study is how energy pragmatism will play a positive/negative role in the solution of the entrenched Cyprus problem in the region. While looking for an answer to this question, the Eastern Mediterranean policies of regional and non-regional political actors were examined and the effect of natural gas reserves on these policies was discussed. Israel, Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus (gcasc) and Egypt are among the countries that have already identified natural gas reserves in the region. Besides that, the exploration studies are in progress. The region draws the direct attention of international organizations such as the European Union and NATO, as well as the United States and Russia in the context of energy security. The Eastern Mediterranean, as a multivariate region, still maintains its historical importance and Cyprus Island continues to attract attention with the energy resources it possesses, as it is with its geographical location throughout history.
