Abstract (EN)

In this study, the frequency of 15 STR loci alleles from the population of Eastern Anatolia Region was determined, genetic polymorphism are showed, and results are compared with other populations. In our study, DNA data from 802 individuals, obtained from the samples of paternity determination and forensic cases in DNA Laboratory (Department of Forensic Fırat University), were examined by the ethical approval. Eastern Turkey population DNA data were examined for the 15 autosomal STR loci (D8S1179, D21S11, D7S820, CSF1PO, D3S1358, THO1, D13S317, D16S539, D2S1338, D19S433, vWA, TPOX, D18S51, D5S818, and FGA). Allelic frequency data and key statistical parameters of forensic interest [Expected Heterozygosity (He)/Observed Heterozygosity (Ho), Power of Discrimination (PD), Matching Probability (pM), Polymorphic Information Content (PIC), Power of Exclusion (PE), and Typical Paternity Index (TPI)] were calculated. Allele frequencies from the tested population were compared with data for other populations with P-value of exact test for Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. All loci showed a high degree of genetic polymorphism, with observed heterozygosity (Ho) ranges from 0.67332 (TPOX) to 0.85287 (D2S1338).Allele frequencies and statistical evaluations of the 15 autosomal STR loci are reported. We observed no departure from HWE expectations, except for D2S1338 (p = 0.00867). However, these departures were no longer significant after Bonferroni correction. All loci showed a high degree of genetic polymorphism, with observed heterozygosity (Ho) ranges from 0.67332 (TPOX) to 0.85287 (D2S1338) Our country and other countries when compared with the populations of our population examined; Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey and the populations of neighboring countries (Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Iran, Iraq and Greece) were found to be similar allele frequencies. Our region and remote populations from Argentina, South Africa, China and Japan was seen distant for genetic distance As a result, the combined power of discrimination (PD) for 15 loci is 0.99999999999999999861 and the combined probability of exclusion (PE) for 15 loci is 0.99999759. These results indicate that all the loci are highly polymorphic and they could be used in determination of identity. Our study provide an important contribution to the literature because it is the first study that reflects all of Eastern Anatolia Region and it analayzes an excessive number of individuals (802 people.)
