Abstract (EN)
When we look at our recent past, governments have been facing crises as a result of various reasons since the beginning of the 1990s. These various reasons include mismanagement, structural problems and budget deficits. The Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 and the Russian Crisis in 1998 occurred. While the main reason for the Asian crisis was foreign borrowing and fluctuations in exchange rates, the most effective crisis reason of the Russian Crisis was structural problems. In times of crisis, states request assistance from the World Bank. In response to this demand, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) makes various budgets and implements different policies. The aim of this study is to define the crises, to inform about the crisis types and to examine the causes of the Asian and Russian crises that occurred in 1997-1998, the problems experienced in that period within the scope of IMF policies.
