Abstract (EN)

The development of 'Vernacular Architecture', which has been produced by 'non-superior members of the communities', and vernacular repertoire and present state of Eastern Black Sea Reigon which is specialized region in Anatolia are studied. Just before mentioning Vernacular Architecture; the sense of housing, which is considered as the initial point of architecture, and the emotion of counteraction to the negative condition of the nature are analysed. That struggle the mankind displayed, firstly leaded human to find temporary shelters, then directed to set up permanent dwellings. Thus, it is reasonable to say that the house is first step to architecture. Vernacular Architecture had beed ignored by Western world for many years. Vernacular Architecture is examined in terms of emerging of the notions and the historical bacground of the conceptual situation. Mankind had achieved the similar solutions for similar geographical conditions, even if the distances between the communities were great in range. Anatolian geography, at that point, carries considerable importance because of being the first region where the manking established the earliest dwellings. Therefore, the history of 'Vernacular Architecture' and its recent status in Turkey is examined. Vernacular Architecture of Eastern Black Sea Region which brought out unique examples, and is shaped by both its wooden wealth as a result of natural and geographic conditions and the living forms of the communities which has lived through ancient times is observed. Furthermore, we have recent examples which shows that people of the region had learned to live with the nature in peace and reached certain level of building culture. By the data obtained from literature, Vernacular Architecture is observed under two periodical time; first is from old time to industrialization age as 'from past to present', second is after industrialization as 'present'. The information obtained from the excavations in the area shows nearly four thousand years of building culture based on the combination of wood and stone. This period is observed as 'from past to present'. The building materials of that period is defined by the natural environment and the typology of the buildings of that period is defined by the way of living of the communities that occupied the region. Eventually, industrialization triggered migrations, population growth and arising of the fabricated materials in the region. As a result of these, degenerated, unqualified buildings which are inappropriate for natural conditions of the region has emerged. This period is studied as 'present'. 'Live in peace with the nature' the historical principle of the region has transformed to 'fight against the nature' today.
