Abstract (EN)
In addition to its whiteness, showiness, light transmission, porcelain is a prestigious cultural object that enables people to communicate, affects societies from east to west and is influenced by societies' life styles. During the research, literature-search was made, English, German, Italian, Czech sources were used. In this thesis, it is investigated that the porcelain has socio-economic, socio-political, socio-cultural dimensions. Firstly, starting from the splendor of porcelain, it is emphasized, porcelain has a meaning beyond its splendor. Under the socio-economic dimension, it is mentioned porcelain plays an important role in marriage, dowry, wedding culture. It influenced collectors significantly, created a culture. Porcelain rooms are among the best examples of this. Porcelain is used as exchange object, money, gambling chips, because of its' economic value. Secondly, porcelain has a socio-political dimension. Porcelain was used as a diplomatic gifts, propaganda object. Porcelain is associated with the power of government. Thirdly, porcelain has a socio-cultural dimension, it is used as an object of faith. Under the object of faith; figurines, altar pots, incense burners, pipes, tea and healing pots were classified. The category of porcelain figurines depicting social life were examined under the titles of theater, dance, music culture, daily life, nobles and slaves, porcelain dolls. Porcelain were defined in architecture and painting. Finally, incense burners were selected for application. Ready-made objects, sugar-bowls, eggcups, coffee-cups, bowls, were used, applied resin lustre on them. The reason for the selection of these objects was the use of ready-made porcelain, as incense burners that existed in the Ottoman period. Since the eastern and western cultures were intended to form bridges, viscous ornaments were avoided. Chinese art, brush strokes has influenced, series was created accordingly. In some of them, the decals, which reflect the exotic atmosphere of the east, have been applied. Key words: porcelain, culture, east, west, incense burner, lustre
