Abstract (EN)
Aim: The study aims to research the relationship between the traditional applications of postnatal care and breast-feeding and health literacy. Means and Methods: Research is conducted in a way to determine the afore mentioned relationship determine. The research subjects comprise women in their first six months of afterbirth who visited the Sıtmapınarı Family Heath Centre and its Family Heath Centre Number 1 between 31 March 2018 and 2 June 2019. Sampling involves 410 women representing 98% of the target subjects and achieves 95% reliability with 5% error margin as well as 0.05 impact factor according to the implemented power analysis. Data assessment is made by using distribution in percentages, arithmetic average and a 't' test in independent groups. Findings: It is found that nearly all the women have employed the traditional application of the postnatal care of their babies and that 83% of the test subjects have applied the traditional method of breast-feeding. The research reveals that the women mostly had a limited health literacy. Those who adopted the traditional approaches to the postnatal care of their babies stated that they did not at all consider their using of the traditional postnatal care "significant" in any sense. The work has not found any statistically significant difference between the aggregate and fragments average values of the Turkish Health Literacy Tabulation and the implementation of the traditional approaches to postnatal care and breast-feeding (p>0.05). Result: The conclusions of the present research show that women heavily use the traditional means of postnatal care and breast-feeding and health literacy, but mostly seem to fail to attach any degree of significance to such traditional perceptions. Finally, the study determines no meaningful relationship between the health literacy levels of women and their implementation of the traditional approaches to postnatal care and breast-feeding. Key words: postnatal care, traditional application, Health-Literacy, baby care, breast-feeding, nursing
