Evaluation of occupational hygiene measurement to be made in the casting work in terms of occupational health and safety legislation and standards

The aim of this study is to determine the risks in the working environment of casting workplaces and to examine the occupational hygiene measurements required to take precautions within the framework of legislation and standards, and to examine the compliance of the measurements made with the standards. The research is a descriptive study. Occupational hygiene measurements carried out in two large foundries in İzmir province in 2018 were evaluated based on their reports. In the evaluation; National standards (TS 2607 ISO 1999, TS EN ISO 9612, TS EN ISO 7243, TS EN ISO 5349-1, TS EN 12464-1, TS EN 689) were used as a guide from the measurement stage to the measurement results. To the extent that the measurements are in the standards, compliance with the standards was examined at all stages from sampling, number of measurements, form, evaluation method to reporting. Occupational hygiene measurements made in both (A and B) foundries are not made in work areas where risks may be high; In personal exposure noise measurements, measurements are not detailed in accordance with the standard, in thermal comfort measurement reports, the details of the data and inputs that will affect the result are not included in the reports to understand the reliability of the measurement results, only respirable dust is measured in dust measurements, silica dust measurement, which is an important risk source in foundries, is often not done, It has been determined that the instantaneous measurements used in determining the exposure to many chemical substances are made by measuring with a single tube instead of the number of tubes in accordance with the standard. The occupational hygiene measurements and reports made in two large foundries are not made in full compliance with the standards, the reasons for the inputs that may affect the measurement result used in the calculations are not included in the reports, most of the measurements are not made in the main risky areas, so it is a comparison of the occupational hygiene measurements made without fully complying with the standards in this way. It has been found that it does not make sense.
