Abstract (EN)
Weaving operation is a very old technique for forming fabrics. Its basic operations remain the same since the ancient times. However, being able to weave fabrics with required properties is more important today because of the woven fabrics are used not only for domestic purposes but also for technical applications. The aim of this study is to understand the fabric formation on the loom and to estimate the beat-up force by analyzing theoretically the interactions of loom settings, fabric parameters and yarn properties.Within this thesis, theoretical analysis of fabric formation on the loom has been divided into stages which can be defined by the related static equilibrium and geometrical relations. For all stages, the boundary conditions will be the actual transition conditions. Thus the mathematical description of all stages will constitute the whole picture in weaving process. As a result of this theoretical analysis, the beat-up force can be defined in terms of loom geometry and settings, of yarn and fabric properties at all stages of the weaving cycle. Numerical analysis is carried out by using a computer program prepared to solve the equations set up. The theory is tested by a series of actual weaving experiments by weaving plain weave fabrics of varying pick settings. Cloth fell position, warp tension and weft densities are measured in static conditions. Image processing methods are used to measure cloth fell position and weft densities at loomstate. Yarn properties are measured on yarns extracted from the grey fabrics woven.
