Evaluating adverse events of vaccine that applied in Dokuz Eylul University Healthy Children?s follow-up polyclinic

Özet (EN)

Objective: To evaluate adverse events of vaccines administered to children.Method: In our research the adverse events occured after the vaccine and the adverse events rate of vaccines the Childhood National Vaccine Schedule contains have been evaluated retrospectively. The vaccines which were administered to all infants and children in DEUTF Child Health and Disease Department and adverse events occured in these infants and children were recorded by department nurse through clinic visits or calling their families. In this research, it is evaluated the solicited and systemic adverse event of vaccines which were administered between 01 January 2004- 01 July 2008. In adition, which months these adverse events occurred greatly and time relation between vaccines were evaluated.Findings: 8197 vaccines dosage were administered to 1900 children and adverse events were found out in 273 persons. There were 371 adverse events which included 217 fever, 88 systemic reactions (crying, vomitting, irritability, weakness, rash) and 66 solicited reactions (injection-site pain, redness, swelling). 371 adverse events were found in 273 dosage vaccines because of the fact that one vaccine might have more than one adverse effect in our research. Because it was impossible that the side effects of each vaccine was evaluated as one vaccine. The most side effects reported in our study were fever(% 58.49), discomfort (% 26.2), injection-site swelling (% 13.6), rash (% 3.7). When fever was evaluated in detail, fever between 37oC-38oC (% 53.5), fever between 38oC - 39oC (% 42.1), fever above 39oC (% 4.4) were reported in our research. There was a seizure in one child because of DABT+OPV+HİB vaccine in our work. Encephalopathy, anaphylaxi and serious reactions were not occured in our research.Results: According to these research results that vaccine adverse events are observed, understanding vaccine adverse events and vaccine adverse event reporting system must be necessary for distinctive diagnosis of vaccine adverse event and developing good vaccine program.Keywords: vaccines, vaccine adverse events.
