Plant development and physiological effects of drought stress applied to tomatoes in different periods effect on parameters

In addition to reducing the yield and quality of tomato production, drought also causes financial difficulties for producers. In order to determine what effect drought experienced in different periods on tomato production will have on plant development; Babacan F1 hybrid tomato seedlings were used in the study. In tomato seedlings, two drought treatments, namely the 1st period drought application and the 2nd period drought application, were designed with three repetitions in a randomized blocks factorial experimental design with six plants in each repetition. As a result, it was observed that 30 days of water stress in tomato production gradually caused damage to the tomato plant and yield and quality losses. In the present study, it was observed that after 30 days of irrigation, the plant was relieved of stress and the problems in plant development tended to be improved. While the parameters examined in plants, leaves and fruits (plant height, fruit weight, yield and quality, nutrient content and enzyme activities) were negatively affected during drought stress, it was observed that the parameters examined when irrigation was applied after 30 days of drought approached the parameter values in the control group. This suggests that plants can recover after 30 days of drought, and that damage to tomato plants will increase in droughts longer than this period.
