Memorandum of 12 March 1971 with the memoirs of the witnesses

The date of 27 May 1960 is a turning point for Turkish political life. popularly elected parliamentarians ousted from power by military coup, the executions of the late Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, Foreign Minister Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Finance Minister Hasan Polatkan caused a painful 1960s period in our political life. The 12 March memorandum is a result of the understanding of military guardianship brought to Turkish democratic life by the coup of May 27, 1960. In addition, the 1960 Constitution laid the groundwork for the memorandum process. The importance given to freedom of thought, unionization and freedom of thought gained by intellectual life with the 1960 Constitution has been deflected from its purpose by extreme left circles. The 1960s corresponds to a period when organizations against civil governments began in Turkey. The ability of the people to govern themselves by their own choosing is despised by this guardianship. The sole power of the Justice Party, which is a continuation of the Democratic Party, has caused the idea that the May 27 coup did not reach its goal again to sprout. The 12 March memorandum punctuated the military's moderate compromise with the civilian bureaucracy without resulting in a coup and put the country into the process leading up to the September 12, 1980 coup. The study will examine the memories of the soldiers who played an active role in the 12 March process, politicians and journalists who witnessed the period.
