The evaluation of the landuser profile on the cultural heritage in transforming urban historical centers: Case of Izmir

Conservation is not just a physical process also a sociological action in international agreements and laws as framed. Its signification and maintaining will not be able to continue without understanding the social structure of the historical space. In this context, it is wanted to examine the evaluations of the user profile related with cultural heritage in İzmir historical city center and wants to put forth how is perceived by land user through the eyes. This research can be presented data to held discussions about current structure and future condition of Kemeraltı. According to these data can be discussed how should be the conservation-renovation approaches on historic urban pattern and can be defined as the purpose of the study. İzmir historical city center consists of commercial and residential areas have experienced different transformations in periods, the reason why areas have been discussed separate. Considering the study area's largeness, duration, laber limitation, areas have high representation ability was determined, researches were carried out in the case of registered structures. Initially, the survey was conducted to obtain the data about current Kemeraltı users. Secondly, land registry records of registered real estates include changing hands were analysed to examine the retrospective user changing data. Through the survey, current status determination was trying to fulfil about interventions to buildings, knowledge about cultural heritage and contentedness. The obtained data were evaluated by cross and relative evaluation method to make more meaningful. Despite the experienced socio-economic changes, users contentedness is as a sign to preservation of Kemeraltı Arcade's commercial dynamics and central character. Residential district has a situation that poor groups who want to live in the city. Many derelict structures was observed in the area. It can be understood that users consciousness are low because of the economic and educational inadequacy and have obstacles concerning maintenance and reparation. Primarily the land users should have got awareness and it should be focused to improve their conditions with studies.
