Dr. Süleyman SOYLUThis research was conducted to determine comparative grain yields and someagronomic traits of single, three way and double crosses of maize in ÇukurovaAgricultural Research Institute during 2002-2004 years. In the study, 6 single, 12three way and 6 double crosses corn derived from four dent homozygous inbred linesdeveloped by Çukurova Agricultural Research Institute were used as trial material.Heterosis, heterobeltiosis values and correlations between the parents and theirprogeny were established.Analysis of variance with orthogonal partitioned indicated that there were nosignificant differences among the single, three way and double crosses types. Thehighest (0.70) and the lowest (0.06) correlations were observed in the parental andtheir single crosses progeny in terms of ear diameter and grain yield respectively.Our results showed that inbred lines having high grain yield does not necessarily leadto high yielding single crosses. Plant and ear traits of inbreed lines were not goodindicators for their single cross hybrids in determination of their performance. Withinheterosis and heterobeltiosis values, the lowest means were observed for the time ofsilk emergence and the highest ones for the grain yield.Key Words: Hybrid Corn, Single Cross, Three Way Cross, Double Cross andHeterosisII
