Abstract (EN)

Electric scooters play a crucial role in promoting sustainable transportation and reducing environmental impacts such as carbon emissions, noise pollution, and traffic issues created by internal combustion engine vehicles. In recent years, growing ecological concerns and energy efficiency-focused policies have increased the demand for electric scooters. Many countries offer incentives for electric scooters to reduce carbon emissions and address traffic issues. Moreover, electric scooters hold significant commercial potential, enabling fast and practical urban transportation and being utilized in logistical operations by companies. For these reasons, electric scooters are important not only as a mode of transportation but also in terms of environmental sustainability and operational efficiency for businesses. This study focuses on the development of the first four-wheeled electric scooter in Turkey. The scooter in question has been designed and manufactured to promote sustainable transportation and improve urban mobility. The need for four-wheeled scooters, compared to their two-wheeled counterparts, is based on several advantages. These advantages include high stability and safety, increased load-carrying capacity, and ergonomic comfort. The benefits offered by four-wheeled scooters, particularly in urban transportation and commercial use, are substantial. The design of the four-wheeled scooter provides a more stable ride on uneven surfaces and in heavy traffic conditions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing safety. Additionally, the expanded load-carrying capacity constitutes a significant advantage for commercial use and logistical operations. With its ergonomic design and improved mechanical features, the scooter enhances user comfort during long rides and provides considerable ease for the driver. Within the scope of this study, the design of the components, chassis, and independent suspension system for the four-wheeled electric scooter has been carried out. Dual hub motor connections have been implemented, and integration with other electronic components has been completed. For the completed chassis design, materials such as St34, Aluminum 6061-T6, and Aluminum 7075-T6 were defined in a virtual simulation environment, and analyses including maximum Von Mises stresses, total deformation, safety factor, fatigue life, fatigue damage, and fatigue safety factor were performed using the finite element method. The prototype scooter has successfully completed field tests under real-world conditions. In this context, testing and characterization of the scooter produced under real manufacturing conditions have been completed, resulting in a user-friendly and ergonomically designed product with advanced physical and mechanical features. Ultimately, this thesis aims to strengthen Turkey's position in the electric scooter sector and contribute to promoting sustainable transportation by combining local production with innovative technology.
