The impact of foreign trade on economic growth Turkey samples

The increases in the capacity of the countries compared to the previous periods indicate the pace of their economic growth. Foreign trade, advocated as a mechanism that triggers economic growth, has been the subject of many studies in the economic literature. In line with the requirements of the globalized world, there have been increases in inter-country trade interactions and liberalization in foreign trade has been achieved. Foreign trade generally covers the international trade of goods. It also includes trade in services, investment income and expenses, current accounts, imports and exports of goods. Foreign trade items consist of export and import operations. The main goal of foreign trade is to increase exports and decrease imports. Foreign trade policies have been established in this direction. The main motive in foreign trade is to ensure economic growth and development. Foreign trade policies in the Turkish economy are divided into two different periods before and after 1980. In the pre-1980 period, protectionist policies based on import substitution were implemented in foreign trade, while in the post-1980 period, liberal policies based on exports were implemented. In the first part of the study, the theory of foreign trade, foreign trade policies and the definition, measurement, sources and theories of economic growth are mentioned. In the second section, the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth, export and import operations and the growth and foreign trade of the Turkish economy in terms of periods are examined. In the third part, which is the last part of the study, the literature summaries of the analyses on the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth were given, and econometric analyses were made using export, import and GDP data of the Turkish economy between 2000 and 2019. The Granger causality test was conducted to determine the direction of causality between the data.
