An investigation of the effectiveness of Du-TE model based in-service teacher education

The studies which has been conducted for several years using information and communication technologies are improved by the help of developments on mathematics education software. These improvements make some certain changes necessary on in-service teacher education. In this study, the effectiveness of the Du-TE Model based in-service teacher education designed for mathematics teachers, one of the technology integration models in education, was investigated. For this purpose, computer-based mathematics learning belief scale, software knowledge level scale, and interview form including open ended questions were used as data collection tools. In addition, work sheets and computer screen shots were utilized for the study. Middle school and high school mathematics teachers from a city in Black Sea Region were participated to the study in 2015-2016 academic year. There were 9 participants in the study in which case study methodology was preferred. In-service teacher education activities had been conducted for 10 weeks, 3 hours for a week. In this process, CABRI II, GEOGEBRA, CABRI 3D, DERIVE, and TINKERPLOTS software and STARBOARD smart boards were used. Activities for getting technology integrated in mathematics education were included by using software with work sheets. Moreover, researcher tried to create an awareness of teachers for getting technology integrated in courses. Data gathered before and after the study was analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Results showed that Du-TE Model based in-service teacher education affected beliefs of mathematics teachers positively on behalf of technology use in mathematics education. Furthermore, teachers had positive opinions towards in-service teachers education courses within the study. Also, software knowledge levels of teachers were improved significantly. As a result, technology use of mathematics teachers and integration of technology into the mathematics education is suggested in order to promote use of technology in schools.
