The study of validity and reability of b.dubois 5 word test for the adult individuals at the age of 50 and over

Objective And The Hypothesis: It is aimed to catch early stage Alzheimer Type Dementia (ATD) by looking at the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of a quick and useful; linguistic episodic memory test, Five Word Test (5WT), which has been improved by B.Dubois. Method: 106 healthy, 22 Mild Cognitif ?mpairment (MCI), 39 ATD patient who are at the age 50-96, in total 167 individuals voluntarily participated. Participants have been have been evaluated with the 5WT, Folstein's Mini-Mental State Evaluation (MMSE); Verbal Fluency [Animals Count, Fruit-Human (M-I) count, KAS] and 3Words 3Shapes Tests (3W3S). The simultaneous validity tests of the 5WT with other cognitive tests and test-retest validity of the test were investigated with the Spearman's rho test.In intergroup difference analysis, in homogenous groups, for groups of two the t test, for the multiple groups the ANOVA test , in heterogeneous groups, for the groups of two, Mann-Whitney U test and for multiple groups Kruskal Wallis tests were applied. For the discriminant of the 5WT, the ROC curve was measured. Results: In 5WT remembering with hint all of the healty group received 10 points and in self-remembering %95.3 received 10 points. 5WT self-remembering point (.90) has higher sensivity to distinguish than the remembering with the hint point (.84). Early stage ATD and MCI patients (s:.84, s:.93) have high sensivity and specifity. All participants (q=.88) and ATD patients (q=.81) have high internal consistency. The test-Retest correlation, between observers r =0.80 and for the same observer at different times (r =0.95) is high. The 5 WT point differences between healty and the patients, MCI and ATD patients, ATD patients in several stages are significant (p<0.01). Between 5 WT and MMDD, 3W3S there is highrelationship (r:.70, .78), between 5 WT and Categorical Verbal Fluency Test, there is a middle level relationship (r =.63, .61).Conclusion: In this study, it has been shown that the Turkish version 5WT is valid and reliable test for healthy controls, ATD patients and amnestic type of MCI. Because the 5 Word Test has the ability to capture the ATD in the early stage, it is thought that a significant contribution has been achieved in terms of Neuropsychological Test in our country.Key Words: Five Word Test, Early Stage Alzheimer Type Dementia, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Neuropsychological Test, Verbal Episodic Memory
