Assessment of dentoalveoler morphology with CBCT in cleft lip and palate

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The purpose of this retrospective study is; the examination of dentoalveolar morphology of patients with cleft lip and palate patients and Class I, II and III skeletal pattern with CBCT. Materials and Methods: A total of 97 patients aged 9-28 years were included in the study. At the onset of orthodontic treatment, 16 patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP), 14 patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP), 29 patients with skeletal Class I with ANB angle of 0-4º, 18 patients with Class II of ANB angle greater than 4º, ANB angle A total of 5 groups were formed with 20 Class III patients less than 0 °. Buccal and palatal alveolar bone thicknesses of all permanent teeth in the lower and upper jaws of the left and right mandibles were measured on CBCT images and all patients had buccolingual bone thickness measurements on the mandibular sagittal section, lower cutter root length, alveolar inclination, labial and lingual alveolar crest height, maxillary sagittal inclinations and maxillary depth measurements on sagittal section were compared and compared between groups. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of maxillary molar, premolar teeth buccal and palatinal alveolar bone thickness in UCLP group compared to the other groups (p˃0,05). The labial alveolar bone thicknesses of the maxillary left central teeth apex in the UCLP group were found to be statistically significantly lower than skeletal Class I, II and III groups (p<0,05). Alveolar bone thickness in the UCLP group is similar to that of the skeletal Class I, II, and III groups in labial/palatinal of canine, lateral and palatinal of central teeth. The B-B 'width in the UCLP group is significantly less than the skeletal Class I and II groups (p<0,05). In the BCLP group, buccal alveolar bone thicknesses of maxillary premolar teeth were found to be significantly higher than skeletal Class I, II and III groups (p <0,05), but the same regions were found to have similar palatinal alveolar bone thicknesses. The alveolar bone thickness in the labial of the maxillary lateral and central teeth in the BCLP group is similar to the skeletal Class I, II and III groups. The palatinal alveolar bone thicknesses in the lateral and central teeth are statistically significantly less in BCLP group than Class I, II and III groups (p<0,05). Conclusion: In both cleft lip and palate groups, 'Maxillary Depth' and 'Upper Incisor Inclination Values' are statistically significantly lower than the skeletal Class I, II and III groups (p<0,05). There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of buccal / labial and lingual alveolar bone thicknesses of mandibular molar, premolars, canine, lateral and central teeth (p˃0,05).
