Determination of metal content of fine particles in indoor air of fireworks used in wedding halls

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was investigated how some gerbs(firework fountains) exploded in some wedding halls in Bursa caused a change in the concentration and content of fine particles in the indoor environment where ventilation is insufficient. PM size concentrations and metal determinations were performed on air samples collected from the indoor environment by using cascade personal exposure particle sampler. Sampling was performed using a 5-step Sioutas Personal Cascade Impactor. The mean concentrations of the particulate matter for the " PM>2.5, PM1.0-2.5, PM0.5-1.0, PM0.25-0..5 ve PM<0.25" size ranges are respectively determined as follows; 2,2 mg/m3, 1,91 mg/m3, 1,54 mg/m3, 2,0 mg/m3 ve 2,25 mg/m3. The ratio of fine particles to total particles varied from 61.5% to 91.5%. WHO has set a limit for PM2.5. It was determined that this value was exceeded between 171,4 and 685,7 times in all halls. Concentrations of metals in different size ranges were determined by ICP-MS. The concentration values of Fe, Ti, Sn, Al, Sr, Sb, Zn metals were calculated in μg / m3. The highest concentrations were found as 1269,77 μg / m3, 1877.06 μg / m3, 175.9 μg / m3 for Al, Zn and Fe, respectively. There is no legal regulation for these indoor pollutants in Turkey. Therefore, the results are compared with the OSHA. It was found that the concentrations of Al (PM2,5) and Fe (PM2.5) did not exceed the permissible limit values OSHA.
