Abstract (EN)

ABSRACT Phd Thesis THE INVESTEGATION OF HARDFACING OF LOW-CARBON MILD STEELS BY Co BASED SUPER ALLOYS ELECTRODES Mehmet YAZ Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Metallurgy Education 2005, Page: 102 There are several types of surfacing in coating technology branch, one of them is hardfacing. Hardfacing is applied to reduce the wear losses of material by abrasion, impact, erosion, oxidation, cavitation, etc. It can be also used to increase the life of abraded parts. Generally, Co-based alloys, commercial name is Stellites, are used for harfacing. In this study low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel and Cr-Ni stainless steel were coated with Stellite 1, Stellite 6 and Stellite 12 super alloy hardfacing materials by using electric arc welding and tungsten inert gas welding (TIG) techniques. One layer of a cobalt base alloy was hardfaced on to the steel plates. Appropriate samples were taken from the hardfaced materials and then the structures of samples were investigated experimentally. Hardfaced samples were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, cemical analyses, X-Ray analyses and microhardness measurements. It was seen that the microstructures and the microhardness of the deposited layers and the main materials were affected from the coating process.
