Abstract (EN)

Wall painting was first used as the main element of communication by the prehistoric human on cave walls and was based on the abstract and concrete explanation. Even though in progress of time it was shaped around the different cultures that different peoples formed, it continued to be used as a toll of cultural communication. This study's topic is to analyze the meaning and purpose of wall painting that was born with cave painting in the manner of a historical cycle. The phases are approached from different aspect by their periodical characteristics from cave painting which is the first form of wall painting to its transformation 21st century's Street Art. The first chapter refers to periodically changed definitions of wall painting and areas of usage, its purposes, technique it used and styles of it from prehistoric ages to modern-day. The second chapter analyzes the changing image, meaning and purpose, design, object and wall relation, iconographic expression and the other areas that helped wall painting visible. The third an the last chapter aims to reflect the phases of wall painting that changed into Street Art, grafiti and the adaptation of murals to an investment tool, mural festivals, mural painting as a toll of urban renewal and the situation oh 21 st century grafiti that strives to be a way of dissentient art it was born as.
