Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to examine investigation of the effect on the children's emotion regulation skills the emotional literacy education program given to children staying in child homes. In the experimental research carried out with the mixed method, the experimental and control group consisted of 22 children living in Child Homes. The prepared "Emotional Literacy Education Program" was applied to the children in the experimental group for 12 weeks. Quantitative data of the research were obtained through the personal information form and "Emotion Regulation Scale for Children" and "Emotion Regulation Scale for Children-Adult Form" which were adapted within the scope of this research. Qualitative data were collected through focus group interviews, diaries kept by the children and the researcher, and worksheets of the training program. Shapiro-Wilk test was used to determine whether the quantitative data were suitable for normal distribution or not. In cases where normality conditions were met; parametric tests such as t-test, one-way ANOVA, and two-factor ANOVA tests were used. In cases where normality conditions were not met, non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test, Friedmann test and Wilcoxon test were used. Content analysis was used in the analysis of qualitative data. Each of the five basic emotion regulation strategies determined by Gross (1998) was accepted as a category. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the emotional literacy education program is an effective and permanent education program in regulating children's anger, fear, sadness and excitement and reducing their emotional intensity. In addition, it was determined that the education program supported the level of children's use of emotion regulation strategies to regulate their anger, fear and sadness. The use of strategies for regulating the emotion of excitement has not been encountered very often. The results obtained were discussed in line with the literature and suggestions were made.
