Abstract (EN)
Streams, which are natural sources in urban places, provide ecological continuity with their linear structure and gain importance as potential areas for recreational purposes. It is known that the aesthetic value of urban streams are as important as protecting their natural and cultural characteristics in bringing an identity to the city. In this study, the issues regarding following features of stream corridors were evaluated: urban continuity, provision of green corridors, bringing urban identity, establishing recreational usage areas, bringing a positive influence to urban people socially and psychologically. For this purpose, by handling the examples which were applied at home and abroad, the importance of such influences brought by urban streams to the city were emphasized.First of all, the current situation was set forth by in-situ observations and also a semi-standard survey was conducted among 300 people in order to find out the opinion of local community regarding this subject. The information obtained regarding the cultural structure and education level of the community, their probable contributions to social activities and expectations were analysed with SPSS 13.0 and results were given in tables. People's opinions were taken about their way and frequency of use of Asarsuyu Stream, which passes through Düzce City. According to these results, it was revealed that Asarsuyu Stream is insufficient in many aspects and does not meet the expectations. Considering the effect of such place with urban importance in increasing the quality of life, the things which may be done for its design were examined.As a result, some solution offers were tried to be produced based on some sample projects and design concepts which had been implemented in order to increase the quality of life of Asarsuyu Stream and its immediate surroundings in Düzce both aesthetically and functionally.
