Pregnancy protection of women in postpartum period and influencing factors

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate whether the contraceptive status and factors of postpartum women who applied to Beyköy Family Health Center (FHC) in Düzce province were consistent with the applied questionnaire. The population of the study is 118 women who gave birth between 01.01.2016 and 01.01.2018 registered in Beyköy FHC located in the central district of Düzce. The Family Planning Attitude Scale form, which consisted of 34 items, was administered to women between november and december 2019 in order to measure the attitudes of the participants towards family planning. According to the family planning knowledge and selection status of the participants, 71,7% of the women were taken the health personnel as a source of information and 94,3% were had information about family planning. It was found that 84% of women thought to use at least one family planning method, while 16% dont want to apply any family planning methods as 5,7% answered as their husbands did not want to use any family planning methods and 3,8% was not ready to use. Among those who chose a family planning method, 32,1% wanted to use condom and 20,8% preferred to use IUD, on the other hand the reasons why women preffered to use family planning methods, while 58,5% of women preferred family planning as there is no side effects and 12,3% preferred because they were effective. In the answers given to the Family Planning Attitude Scale, there was no statistically significant difference between the socio-demographic characteristics and obstetric characteristics of the women. In terms of socio-economic characteristics, it is seen that those who has graduated from university, who are working and has social security with a good economic status and in terms of obstetric characteristics with low and abortion history, have higher average. As a result, it is concluded that the perception of family planning is high in women in postpartum period, women in this period support family planning positively, they use birth control methods within the scope of family planning, they avoid pregnancy in postpartum period and modern / effective birth control methods are the most preferred methods.
