This study was planned and conducted to determine the eating habits,nutrition knowledge and the case of obesity of the students attending to the 6th, 7thand 8th grade of Ismetpaşa Primary School in the city of Düzce.350 students in total, 196 boys and 154 girls, were included in the study. Thedata gathered were evaluated statistically.Concerning their BKI, their percentiles in their NCHS data of the students ofboys and girls at the age of 11-12, it was observed that they were all normal, 61.7 %of boy students of 12-13 years of age was normal, 3,1 % was slightly fat, 1.5 % wasoverweight, 63.6 % of girl students was normal, 4.5 % is slightly fat, 1.3 % was fat,whereas 26.0 % of boy students of 13-14 years of age was normal, 3.1 % wasslightly fat, 27.9 % of girl students was normal.It was also determined that 100.0 % of boy students was at the normal levelsof < 1, 65.6 % of girls was at the normal levels of <1 and 34.4 % percent of themwas above the normal levels of ⥠0.85.It was pointed out that 65.1 of the students had their three meals a day andthat the difference between the groups was meaningful (p<0.05).It was determined that 66.6 % of the students sometimes skipped meals, 22.8% always skipped meals, the most skipped meal was lunch and that one of the majorreasons why they skipped meal was that they don?t want to eat it.The rate of the ones who sometimes consume snack between the meals is48.9 % and that of the ones always consuming snack is 48.3 %. The most consumedfood between the meals is fruit with the rate of 37.7 percent.iiiIt was observed that 28.6 % of the students didn?t have any 43.7 % of themdidn?t have this training adequately.36.9 % of the students spend their leisure time reading books, 32.3 % of themspend watching tv, and 19.1 spend making sports.It was determined that the consumption, of calcium of 94.9 %, of pulp of 93.4% , of zinc of 84.6 %, of copper of 74.6 % ,of iron of 41.1 %, of energy of 37.4 % isless than the recommended level.Considering their BKIs, it was observed that the rate of obesity in allstudents is low, but, it was deduced that all students had some bad nutrition habitssuch as having no breakfast, having snacks instead of their meals. In conclusion, itwas determined students, teachers and families. Were not given enough knowledgeabout sufficent and well-balanced diet obesity by both educational institutions andthe media.iv
