Competitiveness analysis of the traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) sector of Duzce

The Province Duzce hold an important potential for the traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) products sector. It is the fact that the sector has the core capability to develop the region which also enabled many institutions to improve the sector. As a matter of fact, with the differentiation of the mission undertaken by Duzce University in recent years, studies have been initiated for this subject. In this context, it is aimed to realize regional development with the developing of the sector. The main aim of this study is to reveal the level of international competitiveness of the TCM sector in Düzce. In addition, it is aimed to identify basic strategies and models for the development of the sector. In order to reach the aim of the research, both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were applied. In the study using Michael Porter's Diamond Model; The data obtained by face to face survey, detalied interviews and expert opinion techniques were analyzed by factor analysis, diversity analysis and content analysis. According to the results obtained from all three data collection techniques, the international competitiveness power of the TCM sector; medium-high/mh, medium/m and low-medium/lm level. Based on these results, strategic development proposals for 29 different sub-variables have been revealed within the framework of 5 different main axes which will increase the international competitiveness power of the sector. In this context, depending on the variables in the model, detailed analysis of all sub-variables should be done and supported by projects aimed at increasing competitiveness.
