Status of drinking water and evaluation of using Düzce province

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this cross-sectional study is that to determinate the relationship with water borne diseases and pollution and the status of disinfection, getting the numine, the focal point, the infrastructural characteristics, the amount of the daily production and distribution of using and drinking waters in the province of Duzce.The data in this study covering the province and the districts of Duzce, were collected forms and records used by Duzce Health directorate to monitor and control using and drinking waters. The data was evaluated on six main headings.Average per capita amount of water n the province of Duzce is 214 liters the daily water amount of per capita in 10 5 of the population in the province of Duzce is still below the 10 liters. When the storage conditions of using and drinking waters were evaluated it was found that the 83 % of the warehouses have not got the sampling taps and the protected areas and again in 95 % of the warehouses have not got chlorination. 52 % of 771 samples taken on he monitoring was not bacteriologically appropriate. The measurement of residual cholorine of the drinking and using water in Duzce rovince in 2009 was 18.275. The level of 0,5ppm of the residual cholorine level was detected 53,7% of the measurements. The amount of 0,5 ppm of the residual chlorine level in September, according to other months was found lower. The report showed an increase in acute intestinal infections in the same mounth.The sampling periods and the properties of the focal points of drinking and using water should be certain standards. A new legislation determining the responsibility and the duties, power of the institutions and organizations for drinking and using water is required this situation can be of benefit to increase the quality of the water.Key words: using and drinking waters, water tank, focal point, water analysis, residual chlorine level, Duzce
