Dziga Vertov's Interval Theory: Intervals in Quay Brothers cinema

Editing used by almost all branches of art, transforms the units that represents alone. When independent units come together to from a new whole the creative possibilities of editing begin to appear. The creative possibilities of editing in cinema were developed by Soviet montage theorists, especially after the 1917 October Revolution. Dziga Vertov, one of the montage theorists, explained that an interval relationship may emerge between shots that may seem unconnected to each other and that intervals are the reasons for convergence rather than distances. Vertov's film titled Man With a Movie Camera, showed his Interval Theory thoughts was also used in practice. Vertov has edited her film with meticulousness and patience to count frame by frame. Animation is the method that is created frame by frame and Vertov's interval ideas can be conveyed most appropriately. The aim of this research is to deal with the interval approach of Quay Brothers, whom produces individual films in the stop-motion animation technique and to reveal how Quay Brothers construct original intervals.
