Developing the parent's acceptance of a child with special needs scale and examination of the relationship between parents' acceptance of their speci̇al needs child in terms of some variables

The person may encounter temporary or permanent problems in performing the functions of daily life before or after birth in some parts of their lives. If the child has a disability, the difficulties encountered can directly affect the family's level of acceptance of the child's disability and the child. This research was conducted for two main purposes. The primary aim of the study is to develop a valid and reliable scale that aims to measure the level of acceptance of the parent's child with special needs. The second aim of the study is to examine the acceptance of children with special needs by parents in terms of some variables. Within the scope of the scale development study, a study was conducted with 260 parents with special needs children in Isparta province and 224 parents in order to examine the acceptance of the child with special needs according to some variables. Within the scope of the study, Parents' Acceptance of their Child with Special Needs Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale developed by the researcher were used. Cronbach Alpha coefficient calculations were used in the reliability calculation of the developed scale. For the content validity of the scale, the scale items were written by examining the literature and expert opinion was sought. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyzes were performed for criterion-related validity studies. Pearson Correlation Coefficient was used for the validity of similar scales. Data analysis SPSS package program and Lisrel 8.7 package programs were used. As a result of the analysis of the data belonging to the first stage of the research, 7 items and a one-dimensional scale were obtained. In the second stage of the study, the acceptance of the special needs child by the parents was examined according to some variables. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis Test was used in the analysis of the data. There was no significant difference in the acceptance level of the children with special needs of the parents in terms of gender, age of the mother and father, socioeconomic sense, duration of marriage, educational status, and place of residence. A significant difference was found in the acceptance of the child with special needs by the parents in terms of the child's age, diagnosis, and the parent's marital status.
