Abstract (EN)

This research is prepared to determine the relationship between parents' child rearing attitudes' children's obsessive compulsive symptoms and levels of hope, examine how these variables differ according to demographic variables and determine if obsessive compulsive symptoms in children have a relationship with the level of hope. 260 children between 12-16 years old and their parents living in Balikesir were randomly chosen as sample of the research. Research includes personal information sheet about the demographic information for participants, "Parental Attitude Research Instrument" for measurement of parents' child rearing attitudes, "Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Inventory" to measure obsessive compulsive symptoms of children and "Children's Hope Scale" to measure children's levels of hope. IBM SPSS v.21 package program was used in the evaluation and analysis of the collected data. The results show that levels of hope are high in children whose parents adopt democratic attitude and equality approach. It was found that the children whose parents presented overprotective motherhood or adopted a democratic attitude and equality approach had high rumination levels in obsessive compulsive symptoms. Our results revealed that the control, suspicion and rumination levels of the children were higher in the families in which the mothers rejected the role of being a housewife. It can be seen that the level of hope increased in children with high cleaning obsessive compulsive symptoms, and the level of hope was lower in children with suspicion and rumination sub-dimensions. The results of the study supported the hypothesis. The results of the research were discussed in the light of the previous findings in order to establish guidance for other researches.
