Parents attitude and beliefs related to childhood vaccinations

The research was designed methodologically and descriptively to test the Turkish validity and reliability of the Caregiver Vaccination Attitudes Scale (CVAS) and to determine the attitudes and beliefs of parents about childhood vaccinations. The research population consists of the parents of children aged 12-35 months who applied to all Departments of Child Health and Diseases in Düzce University Research and Application Center for any reason between July 2020 and December 2020. The research sample includes of 220 parents in the validity and reliability phase of the scale, and 130 parents in the study group. The data were collected using the "Introductory Information Form Research Questions" and the "Caregiver Vaccination Attitudes Scale". Data were evaluated transferring to IBM SPSS Statistics 23 and IBM SPSS AMOS 23 program and using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, test-retest method, descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis test. In the construct validity of the scale; The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value of 0.951 and the Barlett's Test, which shows the scale's suitability for factor analysis, were found to be significant (p<0,001). It was determined that the scale consisted of 13 items and a single factor. The fit index values related to the confirmatory factor analysis model of the scale were determined as χ2/df=2.368, GFI=0.908, NFI=0.941, CFI=0.965, RMSEA=0.079, SRMR=0.035 and Cronbach's alpha coefficient 0.941. It has been determined that the socio-demographic characteristics of the parents, their vaccination beliefs and the Covid-19 pandemic process affect their vaccination attitudes (p<0,05). The study showed that the Caregiver Vaccination Attitudes Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool and determined that parents' vaccination attitudes are affected by variables such as socio-demographic characteristics, vaccination beliefs and pandemic process.
