The investigation of with preschool children's social competence and behavioral problems the relationship between parents 'social problem solving skills

Preschool period is a critical period in which the child is more sensitive to environmental stimuli in the field of social development as in all areas of development. During this period, everyone who interacts with the child, especially parents, other family members, peers and teachers around the child, affects the social development of the child in different ways. The family environment in which the child was born and therefore the parents have the biggest share among the environmental factors that affect the development of the child. Therefore, a separate social development assessment cannot be considered from parents, other family members, peers and teachers. From this point of view, it is possible to understand that the studies dealing with the social development of the child concentrate on parent, teacher and peer relations. When the studies on parents are examined, it is seen that the relationship between the various characteristics of the parents and the social development of the child is considered. However, among these studies, studies that deal with parents' social skills and children's social skills together are less in number compared to other research subjects. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the social problem-solving skills of parents of 48-66 months-old children attending pre-school education and children's social competence and behavior problems in terms of various variables. The research is in the correlational survey model and it was carried out in Nevşehir city center with the parents of the children who attend the kindergarten affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and the independent kindergarten. Social Problem Solving Inventory – Short Form in order to measure parents' social problem solving skills; Social Competence and Behavior Assessment Scale (SYDD-30) to measure children's social competence and behavior problems were used as data collection tools. The analysis of the data has been done with the help of statistical package program. The descriptive information of the sample was analyzed using frequency, percentage and arithmetic mean. In the comparisons between paired groups, independent two samples ttest was used to compare gender and family type variables. One-way ANOVA (F) test was used for quantitative variables in comparisons between more than two groups. The relationship between quantitative data was evaluated with Pearson correlation analysis. As a result of this research, it was concluded that girls' social competencies were higher than boys while they had lower anger aggression. It was found that the children of mothers over the age of 40 had higher levels of anxiety introversion. The research data showed that the anxiety-introversion of children also differed according to the age of the father. It was concluded that the family type variable did not cause any variability on children's social competence and behavioral problems. The research results on parents' social problem solving are the social problem solving of parents with two children is more avoidant than the parents with one child; the social problem solving of the mothers aged 31-40 is more rational, the social problem-solving skills of younger parents are more inattentive and impulsive; the mothers and fathers aged 40 and over are more avoidant in social problem solving than those under 40. The research data showed that social problem solving was more inattentive and impulsive at low income level. It was concluded that a moderately positive relationship between parents' rational problem solving and children's anger aggression. Similarly, there is a moderate positive correlation between parents' avoidant style of social problem solving and children's anxiety introversion. According to these results, some suggestions were made to practitioners and researchers to eliminate the deficiencies of the field, to clarify the subject and to make the research for the benefit of children.
