Determination and analysis of the sīrah and maghāzī narrations in Abū Yūsuf's (D. 182/798) Kitāb al-Harāj

As a result of the interest in the various stages of the life of the Hz. Prophet, a lot of work has been written about him in different fields. The richest written works in this subject can be found in prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī literature. There is information about the Hz. Prophet in the works written in some areas in addition to the prophetic (sīrah) and maghāzī literature. One of these areas is islamic jurisprudence (Fıqh). There is no comprehensive study that reveals the information of prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī in the works Islamic jurisprudence literature (Fıqh). In this study, Abū Yūsuf's Kitāb al-Harāj, which has an important place in jurisprudence literature (Fıqh), is examined. Abū Yūsuf's book, Kitāb al-Harāj, is a book of jurisprudence that deals primarily with the issue of taxes. Its aim is not to address the life of the Hz. Prophet directly. However, it includes information about prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī in relation to various Islamic jurisprudence subjects. In this research, firstly, prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī narrations in the period of Prophet Muhammad in Abū Yūsuf's book called Kitāb al-Harāj were identified. Then, these narratives were listed in chronological order. In addition, the contexts of the narrations in Abū Yūsuf's work were revealed. Next, the information and the narratives were compared with some prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī books. Tables were created to make comparisons easier to follow. In the light of the data obtained from comparisons, narration differences were tried to be revealed. As a result of the comparisons, it was tried to find out whether the prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī information in Kitāb al-Harāj was used by historians who were contemporary of Abū Yūsuf. This research allows us to see how Abū Yūsuf used prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī narrations in his work, and to what extent he used the knowledge of prophetic biography (sīrah) and maghāzī in his jurisprudence. This study also offers the opportunity to evaluate Abū Yūsuf's competence in the field of history.
