Abstract (EN)

In this study, the potential use of certain tree and shrub species naturally growing in the province of Edirne in landscape architecture designs has been examined. A total of 94 plant species have been comprehensively evaluated in terms of their botanical, aesthetic, ecological, and medicinal properties, distribution, propagation, and uses in landscaping. In-depth analyses have been conducted on the potential of these plants to create microclimates in urban areas, their capacity to adapt to climate change, and their roles in sustainable landscape designs. The findings of the research indicate that proper use of local plant species can help regulate temperature and create microclimates in regions like Edirne. The thesis offers suggestions on how these plants can be used in landscape designs to provide both aesthetic and functional benefits. Specifically, unique plant design strategies have been developed for different landscape types, such as urban green spaces, parks, cemeteries, historical sites, and residential gardens. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the great importance of utilizing Edirne's local plant species in landscape architecture, particularly in terms of climate change adaptation and enhancing environmental sustainability in urban areas. It is also believed that these plants can inspire innovative and original applications in landscape designs, both in Turkey and internationally.
