The effect of sulfonylurea drugs on TNF-α level in type 2 diabetic patients

The objective of the current work is to examine the influence of sulfonylurea medicines, which are often used as oral anti-hyperglycemic medications, on the release of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in the study groups. The results of the current work showed there are essential changes among the patient group with Daonil drug and the patient group with Amaryl drug when comparing at the levels of FBS and FNF-a (p<0.05). The means of FBS and TNF-a in the patient group with Daonil drug were (158.23) and (191.40), while in the patient group with Amaryl they were (1.99) and (3.53) respectively, the results of this work noticed that HbA1c was correlated with FBS and TNF-a, and TNF-a was correlated with HbA1c and FBS. All in all, it has been concluded from the current results on the possible role of TNF-α in the pathogenesis of type-2 diabetes mellitus.
