The effects of digitalization on the gender inequality. A quantitative analysis in oecd countries and a qualitative analysis mainly in scope of labour

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the present and future effects of digitalization on gender inequality. Although both terms are commonly quite well-known, the effects of digitalization on social areas, like gender equality, are not widely studied yet. Therefore, there is not sufficient literature in this regard. This insufficiency is the reason of choosing both quantitative and qualitative research as the research method. Following the literature research of these two subjects separately, in scope qualitative research 17 semi-structured interviews were held with mostly high-level executives and entrepreneurs. Ten research sub questions were asked during these interviews. Detailed analysis of the answers is included in the thesis. In terms of quantitative analysis two separate studies were conducted. Initially, statistical analysis methods via SPSS were applied to examine the factors affecting the United Nations Gender Inequality Index (GII). Also, the relationship between several factors and development class of 155 countries was tried to be figured out. Finally, regression analysis was applied regarding thesis' research questions. Secondary data, which was obtained from two different sources, was used in this thesis; the data of GII (provided by United Nations) and also Information and Communication Technologies Development Index (IDI-in other words Digitalization Index) which was provided by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The scope of this analysis is limited with OECD countries. Throughout the thesis related statistical data is also provided.
