Insulation problems in slope roofs and solution suggestions

The roof of a building, places on the top and provides coverage, is one of the most important elements of building characteristics and mostly effected from external conditions. Therefore, roof structures shall be water proof and resistant to all kinds of internal or external effects also shall be environmentally conscious. In order to fulfill these functions, the roof shall be effectively designed and managed throughout the construction process. It is important that all necessary insulations as heat, water and others have to be done to eliminate adverse affects to environment and maintain structural integrity.The increase in product diversity about water and heat insulation with the progressing product technologies have led to facility of selection on different insulation product and method of application depending on type of covering which result special details on connections of covering and insulation products. Upon all these, problems arising from a miss choice of products and lack of information on method of application shall be seen within structure in some forms. Such arising different problems in structures led up to increase in cost of application and method of usage, adverse health conditions, environmental pollution and loss of energy.In this study, problems and solutions on water and heat insulation are discussed in slope roofs. In the study, there exist definitions, design, practices and problems and solutions on insulation through usage on slope roofs. It shall tried be stated that designers, executives, and users do not have sufficient knowledge, experience and consciousness on product choice, detailing and method of application in spite of progressing product technologies and also defects of business firms inspecting such applications in Turkey and adverse effects of all these on structural health, economy and environment shall tried to be explained.Keywords: roof, sloping roofs, insulation, water insulation, thermal insulation, roof covering
