Determination of fruit properties of Scarlet spur apple grown on different rootstocks in Egirdir ecological conditions

In this study, yield, phenological (leaf fall, bud burst, beginning of flowering, full flowering, end of flowering, fruit set rate) and pomological characteristics (fruit width, fruit length, fruit weight, fruit firmness, water-soluble content, titratable acid, and fruit color) of 'Scarlet Spur' apple cultivar planted 4x3 m on MM111 and seedling rootstocks under ecological conditions of Eğirdir district were determined. Bud swell, bud burst, beginning of flowering, full flowering and end of flowering occurred 2 days earlier in MM111 rootstock than seedlings. At the end of flowering, 26.42% fruit set obtained in seedling rootstock was determined more than MM111 rootstock (21%). However, there was no significant difference between the fruit set rates after June drop (seedling 17.15% and MM111 16.72%). Yield (seedling 108.58 kg/tree and MM111 96.05 kg/tree), fruit weight (seedling 200.04 g and MM111 175.37 g) and fruit lengths (seedling 73.76 mm and MM111 69.88 mm), fruit width (seedling 73.98 mm and MM111 70.84 mm) obtained from seedling rootstock were found to be higher than MM111. On the other hand, rootstocks did not have any effect on flesh firmness, watersoluble content, titratable acid and fruit coloration. The results revealed that the seedling rootstock may be suitable for the 'Scarlet Spur' apple cultivar such as MM111 for semidense planting.
