Examining the music education of individuals with special needsreceiving education

This research, which examines the music education of individuals with special needs includes Special Education Practice schools and Special Education Vocational schools. Music lessons conducted in these special educational institutions are examined in the context of musical dimensions, music teaching methods, individuals' interest in music, and the effects of music education on the cognitive and social development of individuals with special needs. The research process was planned and carried out using qualitative research methods and techniques. The main data sources are the relevant literature as well as the semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher to be applied to special education and music teachers working in these institutions. In this aspect, the research aims to examine the music education of individuals with special needs and present it within the framework of scientific research rules and reliability. The thesis has the importance of contributing to the field with the scientific results to be achieved in line with this scope and purpose. Within the scope of the research, the opinions of music teachers and special education teachers working in Special Education Practice schools and Special Education Vocational schools in the central districts of; Çankaya, Keçiören, Altındağ, Yenimahalle, Pursaklar and Etimesgut in Ankara were taken. The data were analyzed using the qualitative analysis technique. According to the results of the research; it was revealed that no education method other than Orff Schulwerk is used in the music lessons in these institutions, that music lessons are effective in the cognitive and social development of individuals with special needs, and that the most effective musical dimensions in this regard are "singing and singing in the choir" and "movement and rhythm studies".
