Abstract (EN)

The present thesis summarises recent researches that looked at philosophy, science and culture in the mediaeval ages. The origins of philosophy in Islamic education are emphasized. In this regard, the educational perception starting with Nizamiye Madrasahs, the institution in which the first madrasah education was given in the real sense, are studied in Seljuk period (1038, 1157). The institution types emerged during the historical process is summarised. The thesis starts with how education activities that started before Islamism has developed in parallel with science. In this point, how education has developed in an informal structure in müttabs, mescids and mosques; and how education was in palace schools, bookstore shops, the home of scholars, literary halls, deserts and in nomads' life is analyzed. As a result of translation activities held during the Abbasids period, the role and importance of Beyt-el Hikme which considers philosophical and religious sciences as two separate issues are emphasized. The main point of my thesis is the intellectual heritage and intellectual foundation that the Nizamiye Madrasahs created in the education life, the period of Sultan Alp Arslan and his heir Melik Şah. The effect of Nizamü'l Mülk, the famous vizier of both periods, on the state administration and education is explained thoroughly.
