ABSTRACT EVALUATION OF EARTHQUAKE RISKS IN NON-STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS OF EDUCATIONAL BUILDINGS: EXAMPLE OF BOLU PROVINCE Seda AKBALIK Duzce University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Department of Architecture Master's Thesis Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin BAYRAKTAR July 2020, 96 pages Turkey is located take a place in seismically active zone often exposed to earthquakes due to. From the last major earthquakes experienced, it was understood the importance of being prepared for the earthquake at any time after the 17 August 1999 Marmara Earthquake and the 12 November 1999 Düzce Earthquake. It is important for the examination of the non-structural elements, which are important parts of the structures, and the design of the earthquake, In terms of the continuity of the functions of the buildings. In addition, due to the fact that the share of non-structural elements in the building costs is very large, standards have been established for engineers of designing by FEMA and ASCE. In this study, 4 schools (2 High Schools, 1 Secondary Schools and 1 Primary Schools) selected as samples from different regions in Bolu province are revealed the risks of non-structural elements in a possible earthquake. The risks that may arise from unstructured elements were examined at each school site through the checklist prepared. By transforming the information obtained in the checklist into numerical data with the L Matrix method, the risks of schools in terms of non-structural elements were determined proportionally. Enlightening information about the types of hazards that unstructured elements may cause and what the precautions can be taken in the study schools are given together with the checklist results along with photographs and drawings.
