The effects of students' cognitive readiness on their academic accomplishment in foreign language courses in the faculties of education

Abstract (EN)

m ABSTRACT In this study, the readiness of the students in foreign language courses in the faculties of education and the relationship between readiness and achievement were investigated. The universe of the study is the students in Kırşehir Faculty of Education. The sample of the research was composed of 176 Freshman students who were randomly chosen among the ones studying in Kırşehir Faculty of Education. In the study, test-after test investigation pattern was used. The data were obtained through " The Scale of Readiness and Achievement Level of Students in Foreign Language" which was prepared by the researcher. The Alpha Internal Consistency Coefficient for the scale was calculated as 0,87. While analyzing the data, Arithmetic mean, Standard deviation, Variance Analysis, Scheffe Test and T- Test were used. According to the findings; 1. There is a significant relationship between the sexes of the students and their readiness. The difference is in female students' favour. 2. There is a significant relationship between the sexes of the students and their academic achievement. The difference is in female students' favour 3. There is a significant relationship between the departments of the students at faculty and their readiness. The difference is in Science Teaching Department students' favour 4. There is a significant relationship between the departments of the students and their achievement in foreign language course. The difference is in Science Teaching Department students' favour 5. There is a significant relationship between the students who attend to preparatory classes or not and their readiness. The difference is in preparatoryIV classes attended students' favour. 6. There is a significant relationship between the students who attend to preparatory classes or not and their achievement. The difference is in preparatory classes attended students' favour. 7. There is no significant relationship between the accommodation of the students in high school and their readiness. 8. There is a significant relationship between the education level of the students' parents and their children's readiness. The difference is in high school and university graduated parents' children's favour. 9. There is a significant relationship between the income level of the students' parents and their children's readiness. The difference is in high income level of the parents' children's favour. 10. There is a significant relationship between the income level of the students' parents and their children's achievement. The difference is in high income level of the parents' children favour. 11. There is a significant relationship between the readiness level of the students and their academic achievement. The difference is in ready students' favour.
