Abstract (EN)
This study was carried out to determine the knowledge and attitudes of pre service chemistry teachers studying in Gazi University , Faculty of Education on hydrogen energy . A 18 item multiple choice test was applied to 15 1st year , 29 2nd year, 28 3rd year , 45 4th year and 5 5th year a total of 130 students. The data were evaluated on percentage basis .The evaluation of the data revealed that 63% of the pre service teachers agree with the statement ?hydrogen is a clean fuel ?. Majority of the pre service teachers are cognizant of the fact that the energy sources of the world is not infinite . Sixty six percent of them know that the only waste resulting after the combustion of hydrogen is water. However 22 % mostly girls have still doubts about this fact. More than half of the chemistry pre service teachers are not aware that Turkey holds 70% of boron reserves which is very important as regards to hydrogen fuel cells.Based upon data obtained following proposals could be made : The importance of hydrogen energy must be emphasized in Science and Technology course starting from the 5th grade by giving articles and making activities related to this topic . The importance of boron which is abundantly found in Turkey and very important as regards to the utilization of hydrogen energy should also be stressed. The fact that hydrogen energy is the cleanest mode of energy as regards to environment should be pointed in order to draw the attention of the authorities to this topic. Finally the public must be informed about this subject starting from the primary educationKey Words : Hydrogen energy , chemistry education , pre-service chemistry teachers
