Examining the relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and thelevel ofaggression in terms of some variablesamong the faculty of educationstudents

The goal of this research is to examine the relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and the level of aggression in terms of some demographic variables among the faculty of education students. This studyis designed according to the descriptive method and the relational screening model. Study population is constituted of students from Faculty of Education of Gaziantep University in the 2012-2013 academic year. The sample of study is constituted of randomly selected first, second, third and fourth grade students from Departments of Primary Education, Turkish Education, Elementary Mathematics Education and Guidance and Counselling at Gaziantep Education Faculty and randomly selected first grade students from Department of Social Studies Education at Nizip Faculty of Education at Gaziantep University. The 59.8 percent (n = 291) of students are female and 40.2 percent (n= 196) of students are male. The total number of students is 487. ?Aggression Scale?, which is developed by Buss and Perry in 1992, updated by Buss and Warren in 2000 and adapted in Turkish by Can in 2002, ?Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Scale?, which is developed by Bar-On to determine the level ofemotional intelligencein 1997 and adapted in Turkish by Acar in 2001 and ?Demographic Information Form? which is developed by the researcher are used as data collection tools. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, simple linear regression analysis, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage distribution and multivariate analysis of variance are used for the analysis of the data. To determine the source of differences Scheffé test is applied for multiple comparisons. As a result of analysis of the research significant relationship (p<.01) is found between the results obtained from the Emotional intelligence scale, the Aggression scale and the subtests of these scales. Significant moderate inverse relationship (p<.01) is found between the total scores obtained from Emotional intelligence scale and the Aggression scale. Alsoas a result of the regression analysis the level of emotional intelligence has been found to besignificant predictorson the level of aggression. It has been observed that the level of emotional intelligence of the participating students differs significantly in terms of their gender, departmental training, mother's education level, father's education level, grade level of education, and socio-economic level of income. Alsoit has been observed that the level of aggressiveness of the participating students differs significantly in terms of their gender, departmental training, grade level of education and socio-economiclevel of income but does not differ significantly in terms oftheir parents'level of education. The findings of the study have been discussed onthe research results inthe literature and proposals have been developedin line withthe results obtained.
