Opinions of the students of non thesis master's program at the department of education management and supervision and the lecturers on non - thesis master's program at the department of education management and supervision

This study aims to identify the opinions of the Students of the Non-Thesis Master's Program studying at the Department of Education Management and Inspection and their lecturers on the Non-Thesis Master's Program at the Department of Education Management and Supervision. Within this scope, it is intended to determine their opinion on the objective of this program, the content of courses, process relating to learning and teaching and efficiency as well as the reasons why they study non-thesis master, its possible effect on their personal and professional life and their recommendations on this program. In this study, the case study pattern which is one of the case studies is used through a phenomenological point of view. The study group of this research consists of 23 students who have graduated from or study at the last semester of the Non-Thesis Master's Program of the Education Management and Supervision of the Educational Sciences of the İnönü University and 5 lecturers who teaches the students studying in the said program. All the participants have voluntarily participated in this study. The maximum variation sampling method is used in this study. The data relating to this study have been collected through the semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. The data gathered during this study has been analyzed by the content analysis method. It is seen that the opinions of lecturers and students on the non-thesis master's program are grouped under 5 main titles. Among these titles, mostly the titles "enabling personal and professional development" and "bridging theory and practice". It is understood that the opinions of the participants on the non-thesis master's degree cohere with the objectives mentioned in the regulations but they have some more objectives not mentioned in the relevant regulations. In addition it is seen that the non-thesis master's degree has become an alternative for those who were not accepted to the master degree with thesis. It is understood that the content of the courses coheres with the objectives of the program and is sufficient but some courses are not sufficient and do not cohere with the objectives as the opinions of the students are not taken and the contents are not updated. It is determined that both teacher and student-cantered approaches are used during education. The subjects are generally given plainly by the students or lecturers. Though the participants stated that the activities during study are enough to attain the goals they criticize the some points. The single group or in order sitting arrangement in classroom is used. But the students stated that they prefer the single group sitting and in order sitting is not efficient when they study in the classroom.The participants stated that they do non-thesis master's degree mostly because of carrying out master, doctorate, enabling personal and professional development.Their opinion relating to their professional and personal development support the objectives of the program. In addition it has implicit effects other than the objectives mentioned in the objectives of this program. The participants mostly declared positive opinions on the non-thesis master's degree program. On the other hand they stated that the reasons such as the program not taken into consideration by the Turkish Ministry of Educational Affairs and not applicable affect the efficiency of the program adversely.The participants have made some suggestions for this program. They mainly stressed that the Ministry of National Education must cooperate with the university and the teaching and learning process as well as the content of the courses must be reregulated. In parallel with the findings acquired in this study the researcher also has developed some suggestions.
